WESTBOROUGH – The Westborough Fire Department responded Monday to a sulfuric acid spill at Ascend Elements, a Flanders Road company that produces new battery materials from spent lithium-ion batteries. According to the Community Advocate, roughly 120 liters of sulfuric acid leaked onto the facility’s back docks.

Fire officials say no one was injured and the spill did not reach any drainage basins. Ascend Elements also brought in a specialized cleanup firm to assist with the response.
