If you’re planning on hitting a beach to swim this weekend, you still cannot swim at the Hopkinton State Park upper and main beaches. The latest water testing still shows higher than safe levels of enterococci bacteria which is typically caused by bird droppings. Both beaches have been at these levels for several weeks this summer, as have many beaches around the state with the Hopkinton Independent reporting at one point there were 70 beaches closed. Lake Maspenock is open though and safe to swim.
