MASSACHUSETTS – The State’s Housing and Livable Communities Secretary, Ed Augustus, is stepping down to take on a new role in the private sector.

Governor Maura Healey announced that Augustus will leave state government at the end of this month to become the next CEO of Whitinsville-based UniBank.

Augustus has served as Housing Secretary for the past three years. Prior to that, he was Chancellor of Dean College and spent several years as the City Manager of Worcester.

During his time as Housing Secretary, Massachusetts passed the $5.2 billion Affordable Homes Act, a major statewide effort aimed at expanding housing availability and affordability.

UniBank, headquartered in Whitinsville, is one of the region’s largest community banks.
