SOUTHBOROUGH — Town officials are evaluating where to build a new wastewater treatment facility as they prepare for expected growth along Route 9. With more housing and commercial development anticipated, the Wastewater Study Committee has been exploring ways to expand the town’s capacity.
According to the Community Advocate, the committee recently determined that Southborough cannot share a facility with neighboring Westborough or Marlborough, prompting a closer look at creating its own treatment plant. Several site options will be studied and eventually presented to Town Meeting for consideration.
Officials say they hope to have construction underway by 2027.
