SOUTHBOROUGH – A Southborough committee has identified four possible options for the future of the town’s elementary schools following the failed tax override to replace Neary Elementary, which dates back to the 1970s. According to the Community Advocate, the group developed a range of solutions to address aging facilities and long-term educational needs.
The four options include:
1) fully renovating Neary Elementary;
2) renovating Finn Elementary to serve pre-K through third grade while shifting grades four and five to Woodward Elementary;
3) constructing a new fourth-grade-only school; and
4) building an entirely new consolidated pre-K to fifth-grade school.
Officials note that, regardless of the path chosen, significant capital spending will soon be necessary across all elementary schools to keep up with structural and educational requirements.
