Some electric bills will be going down for summer. The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities has approved a 40% rate reduction for National Grid electric customers starting after May 1.

Basic service rates typically change each year on May 1 and November 1 as summer and winter demands change for natural gas which is what fuels most electricity to homes. In a statement, National Grid said the supply price will drop from 34 cents per kilowatt hour to 14 cents per kilowatt hour.
