HOPEDALE – If you notice a small research boat out on Hopedale Pond this week, it’s part of a scientific study to map the bottom and measure the pond’s depth.

According to the Town Administrator, scientists from Tighe & Bond are performing what’s known as a bathymetry, a detailed survey of underwater contours and depth variations. The work is being done as part of a grant-funded project to help guide future repairs to the causeway and rustic bridge and to explore potential dredging of the pond.

The study runs through Thursday, and officials assure residents that the process will not endanger wildlife or involve the use of any chemicals.
