By MyFM’s Marissa Santos – Santa’s Porch, a Toy Drive initiated in 2015 by Meg Rivett, Laurie Reynolds, Tracy Johnson, and LeeAnn DiPietropolo, traces its roots back to the extensive volunteer experiences of Meg and Tracy at the Milford Food Pantry over two decades. Amid the holiday season, Laurie and LeeAnn, responsible for the toy room, confronted a shortage of donations. The realization that families were being turned away without gifts for their children spurred a spontaneous decision that evening: “We need to buy some toys!” This simple idea evolved as they wondered if their friends would join the effort, and the response exceeded all expectations.
The friends joined forces, generously donating toys that started piling up on LeeAnn’s porch. As the collection expanded, it lovingly earned the moniker Santa’s Porch, culminating in the creation of the Santa’s Porch Charity. Throughout the years, this initiative has evolved into a community-wide undertaking, garnering growing support and contributions not only from local friends and residents but also from individuals across the nation.
While the entire operation initially took root on LeeAnn’s porch, they now gratefully utilize the space provided by the First United Methodist Church. This year marked the most significant achievement to date, underscoring the ongoing expansion and positive influence of Santa’s Porch in spreading holiday joy to families.
