Structure Fire 172 Ridge St
At 5:32pm on Friday January 31, 2025, the Millis Public Safety Dispatcher received a 911 call reporting their house was filling with smoke at 172 Ridge St. Enroute crews were updated that there was a fire in the kitchen. On arrival of Engine 1, Lt. Conrad reported heavy black smoke and fire showing at the front door of a large multifamily building. Engine 1’s crew stretched a line into the fire, Ladder 1’s crew stretched a second into an adjoining apartment. Crews encountered heavy fire with extension throughout the balloon frame construction. During the initial attack the house service burnt off and dropped on the fire apparatus, Eversource was notified and cut power to the area due to the safety concerns of all firefighters on scene. With fire extending throughout the building with difficult access a Second alarm was struck. Once again, a great response from our Mutual Aid partners assisted us in fighting this stubborn fire. During the fire there were 2 medical calls that were handled by Sherborn, Norfolk and Medfield.
There were 3 families affected, all 7 residents and pets were able to escape safely. The Red Cross was on scene to assist with temporary housing. And the State Fire Marshals office was on scene to determine the cause and origin.
Thank you again to our Mutual aid partners, Medway Fire, Medfield Fire, Sherborn Fire, Westwood Fire, Wrentham Fire and Franklin Fire.
Our Millis Police secured the area, and Millis DPW was on scene assisting with shutting the water off to the home. Thank you to Officer Tyler Angel for the photos.
