MILFORD – Milford Police say a three-hour standoff at an apartment building on Depot Street Sunday night began as a response to a civil dispute but quickly escalated into a mental health emergency. Officers say the individual involved refused to open the door and allegedly stated they had a knife and would harm themselves or anyone who entered.
Police evacuated the building while the department’s Family Services Unit and a Crisis Negotiator responded to the scene. The situation was resolved peacefully around 9 PM, with no injuries reported, and the individual was taken for a mental health evaluation.
