MILFORD – We’re learning more about the single article that has prompted a Special Town Meeting in Milford next week. The STM is scheduled for Monday, February 9, and centers on whether the Town should use eminent domain to take a property at 6 Park Terrace, located behind the police station and between other town-owned parcels.
According to town officials, the home has been on the market for about seven months, and the Town has made unsuccessful attempts to purchase the property through negotiations. The Select Board says the goal is to acquire the land to allow for a future expansion of the Milford Police Station.
Officials emphasize that using eminent domain would force the sale of the property, but the owner would still be compensated at fair market value, as required under state law. Residents will have the opportunity to weigh in and vote on the matter at the Special Town Meeting.
