Milford Board of Health Warns About No Plastic Bags in Recycling Bins

MILFORD — Milford’s Board of Health is reminding residents that plastic bags should never go into your recycling bin — including grocery bags, trash bags, and bin liners.

Officials say plastic bags create safety hazards, damage recycling equipment at facilities like E.L. Harvey, and are considered contamination. Because of that, recycling pickup could be skipped if bags are found in the bin.

With extra waste expected after Valentine’s celebrations this weekend, the Board of Health urges residents to place recyclables loose directly into the bin, not bagged. They also suggest doing a quick check before collection day to help keep recycling safe, efficient, and on schedule for everyone.
