HOPEDALE – A Mendon man is facing multiple charges after an alleged assault on a police officer during an overnight OUI investigation. Hopedale Police say officers found Rodrigo Da Silva asleep in his SUV stopped in the middle of a roadway around midnight Monday.
Police allege Da Silva had his foot on the brake while the vehicle remained in drive. When an officer asked him to place the SUV into park, Da Silva allegedly refused. Investigators say when the officer attempted to reach into the vehicle to shift it into park for safety reasons, Da Silva began striking the officer.
Da Silva has been charged with Operating Under the Influence, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Assault on a Police Officer.
