High School Principal John Murray is pleased to announce that the Medway High School Concert Band and Concert Choir performed at the statewide Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICCA) Festival last weekend.
The Festival, a significant event in the Medway High School community, was held April 6-7 and featured all Medway High School choir and band members. Choir ensembles performed in Westborough and band ensembles performed in Hopkinton. In total, 259 music ensembles participated in this year’s event.
Both the choir and band performed three repertoire pieces for three adjudicators, who then scored the pieces against a standard rubric. After the performances, the ensemble attended a private clinic with one of the adjudicators and was awarded a medal of participation, merit, bronze, silver or gold.
The Concert Choir received a gold medal and the Concert Band received its first silver medal.
“Seeing our choir and band achieve such remarkable success fills me with immense pride,” Principal Murray said. “Their dedication, passion, and hard work have elevated their musical abilities and serve as a shining example of what can be accomplished through perseverance and teamwork.”
Festival performances last about 20-30 minutes. Members of the MHS concert choir performed “Domaredansen,” “Sure on this Shining Night,” and “Gloria.” The band members performed “Amparito Roca,” “Ammerland,” and “Kalos Eidos.”
MICCA encourages and supports the development of elementary, middle, and high school performing ensembles. The festivals include performances by marching bands, soloists, and ensembles.
Members of the Medway Public Schools faculty, students, families, and community members also attended the Festival to show their support.
