SHREWSBURY – Police say a man who crashed his SUV through the front of the Shrewsbury Police Station Monday afternoon did so intentionally.

The driver was injured in the incident, taken into custody, and then transported to a hospital, according to police. Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson said the man is known to police and had a prior “interaction” with the department in 2019.

Authorities say no officers, staff members, or members of the public were hurt when the SUV drove through two pylons outside the station, then smashed through two sets of front doors and the doors to the dispatch center, coming very close to several dispatchers who were working at the time.

Despite the severity of the crash, police say the department remains fully operational as the investigation into the incident continues.
