By MyFM’s Marissa Santos – Stephen Murphy, 52, pleaded not guilty to charges of crashing a van into two homes on Grove Street in Hopkinton. During the Framingham District Court arraignment, bail was set at $400, with the next court appearance scheduled for Feb. 2.
Arrested the previous day, Murphy faces charges, including operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor (second offense), leaving the scene of a crash causing property damage (two counts), and driving to endanger. Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett reported the incident occurred around 2:51 p.m. on Thursday when a white van struck homes at 75 and 77 Grove St. A vigilant witness provided a description, leading an officer to swiftly locate and apprehend Murphy without injury.
Hopkinton Fire Department, led by Chief Gary Daugherty Jr., responded to the scene. Significant damage to a load-bearing wall in one home prompted the involvement of Fire District 14 Technical Rescue Team, working to secure and stabilize the heavily damaged home’s first and second floors. The Building Department also responded.
While none of the residents were injured, one family faced displacement due to home damage and will be accommodated by others.
