The fire departments of Hopkinton, Southborough and Ashland have together been awarded a $923,000 federal grant for new equipment. FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters grant will allow the three departments to replace more than 100 of their outdated breathing apparatus which Hopkinton’s Interim Fire Chief says will mean 32 new ones, saving the town about $360,000. Ashland’s Fire Captain tells the Daily News when the departments apply together for a regional grant they often have more success.
