By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Lake Maspenock is closed to all swimming, boating and fishing Monday and Tuesday as a contractor treats it with an herbicide to control the growth of weeds in the lake. The Parks and Recreation department has said not only is the weed level already higher than usual so early in the summer, but they’ve also discovered a new species of invasive weed. In March the Hopkinton Conservation Commission approved using herbicides in a strategy which also includes drawdowns, benthic barriers and hand and mechanical harvesting.
