Water use in Hopkinton last week was more than twice the average as the town struggles to keep its wells full enough. At this week’s Select Board meeting the Department of Public Works Director Kerry Reed emphasized why citizens need to take water conservation seriously and stop watering their lawn which is the current town mandate. The Hopkinton Independent reports Reed said while the drought status has improved, the wells are still catching up and during last week’s heatwave, Hopkinton used 1.7 million gallons of water a day, nearly double the amount of the average day.
