HOPKINTON – Hopkinton will convene a Special Town Meeting this Thursday, December 4, to consider reducing the town’s fiscal year 2026 budget. According to officials, the Town Manager said that after finalizing the actual 2025 expenses, the town realized it would need less funding for 2026. Because municipal budgets cannot be altered without voter approval, the adjustment must be made through Town Meeting.

The revision is also time-sensitive, as it must be approved before the tax rate is set for next year to avoid overtaxing residents and businesses. The unexpected savings stem from overestimated health care costs and lower-than-anticipated interest on town debt payments.
