Hopkinton Select Board Mulls Voting Rights for Non-US Citizens in Local Elections

By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Should non-US citizens get a vote in local town elections? It’s a question the Hopkinton Select Board is thinking about putting to Town Meeting voters. The article proposed by the Select Board Chair would let lawful permanent residents vote for offices such as School Committee and during Town Meeting. It would require a home rule petition from the state. The Daily News reports the Town Clerk stated at the last Select Board meeting it would be an administrative burden that might require him to add more staff.
