Hopkinton Select Board Discusses School Safety After Swatting Incident

By MyFM’s Claire BeverlySchool safety was a main topic for the Hopkinton Select Board when they met Tuesday night. The focus was on an October incident in which a false report of a shooter at the High School brought out a big police response, known as “swatting”. Several public safety responders including Police Chief Joseph Bennett spoke although he said they could not give a lot of details about their response because it would give away tactics. The Hopkinton Independent reports there was a complaint about a lack of communication which has since led to the purchase of some stronger walkie-talkies and new style of classroom door locks. Bennett also said he would be open-minded about working with a consultant to consider other improvements.
