HOPKINTON — The Hopkinton School Committee has selected former Elmwood School Principal Anne Carver to serve as assistant principal at Marathon School following the administrative leave of Eric Mitchell last month. According to the Hopkinton Independent, Carver will step into the role as a long-term substitute through the end of the current school year, at least for now.
The move comes as additional details have emerged regarding Mitchell’s absence. Officials have confirmed that his leave is connected to an alleged assault at a casino in 2024. Mitchell has reportedly been sentenced in that case to probation and ordered to pay restitution.
School officials have not indicated whether Carver’s appointment could extend beyond the end of the school year, and the district has previously stated that there is no information suggesting any impact on student safety at Marathon School.
