Hopkinton Police are investigating the local version of a nationwide scam that has hit a local business. Hop News reports that while the owner had stepped away from the store someone claiming to be a police officer called the store and told the teenage employee – who he knew by name – they were investigating a counterfeit ring and they needed her to take all the cash from the register and bring it somewhere else. The store’s owner says he’s not so much worried about the lost money as he is about employee safety.
