When the state settles two current lawsuits with drug companies over the harm from the prevalence of opioids, Hopkinton could get some money. At their meeting this week the Select Board voted to allow the town to participate in the new settlement agreements – one with Purdue Pharma and the other with a group of eight drug makers – which together total more than $7.5 billion. The Hopkinton Independent reports the town will not know how much money it will get until all affected towns have a chance to vote. As with previous settlements, the money goes for addiction treatment and prevention.
