By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Hopkinton has installed two PFAS filtration tanks at the Fruit Street pump station. Hop News reports crews are working to connect the pipes to the pump house after which water will flow directly from Fruit Street wells #1, #2 and #6 into the tanks to be filtered and then returned to the pump house to go into the Hopkinton water supply. PFAS were used for decades in many items like cleaning products, water-resistant clothing, nonstick cookware, makeup and upholstery. But they were also used in firefighting foam such as was used by the Massachusetts Fire Academy at Fruit Street in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
