Hopkinton, MA – The future of this year’s Hopkinton Horribles Parade is uncertain as the Parks & Recreation Commission seeks approval from the Select Board before committing to sponsorship.

The July 4th Horribles Parade is a long-standing tradition that aims to satirize all political parties in a family-friendly manner. However, concerns have been raised over last year’s event, with some residents feeling it was too partisan and could contribute to divisions within the community.

According to the Hopkinton Independent, during last week’s Parks & Rec Commission meeting, the Hopkinton Republican Town Committee requested approval and sponsorship for this year’s parade. In response, some commission members expressed hesitancy, stating they had received feedback from citizens questioning the event’s tone and inclusivity.

To address these concerns, commission members suggested that the Select Board discuss the matter in a more widely attended public meeting. If the board gives its approval, the Parks & Recreation Commission may then reconsider signing on as a sponsor.

As discussions continue, residents and stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether the town moves forward with its traditional Independence Day event.

Stay tuned for further updates on the Select Board’s decision and the fate of this year’s parade.
