HOPKINTON – Hopkinton’s Health Department says a recent brush with measles is a reminder for residents to stay vigilant when traveling.

The Hopkinton Independent reports that at a recent meeting, the town’s Health Director recounted a Christmastime situation in which someone who flew into Boston for business and traveled to Westborough was later found to have measles.

While officials say Hopkinton has a relatively high vaccination rate among children, the Health Director noted that not all older residents may be up to date on their measles vaccinations, particularly if they have not received a booster in many years.

He is encouraging residents, especially those planning to travel, to consider getting a booster shot to help protect themselves and prevent the spread of highly contagious illnesses like measles.
