By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Hopkinton’s fire chief will reportedly get the main voice in choosing his deputy chief. At this week’s Select Board meeting, Chief Gary Daugherty gave an update on the hiring situation which included how involved the previous incarnation of the Select Board had been. The Hopkinton Independent reports newly elected members Brian Herr and Joe Clark said they support the chief and his department making that decision and not spending money on a consultant which could cost nearly $10,000 that would come out of the fire department budget. And Daugherty said the department has good internal candidates.
