HOPKINTON – The Hopkinton Select Board may let Town Meeting decide whether to establish new bylaws regulating electric bike use on local trails.
During Tuesday’s meeting, the Board discussed e-bike safety following a Trails Committee recommendation for a 10-mph speed limit. Committee members say fast riders are damaging trails and creating safety risks for other users.
According to the Hopkinton Independent, the Deputy Police Chief noted that aside from helmet requirements, there are currently no local laws police can enforce regarding e-bikes. One board member suggested drafting a Town Meeting article for next year to address the issue.
