Hopkinton Considers Adding 0.75% Local Tax on Restaurant Meals

By MyFM’s Claire BeverlyHopkinton could potentially be adding more onto the tax on meals you get at restaurants. This week the Select Board voted to ask Town Meeting for a local option meals excise tax of 0.75% on top of the existing state tax of 6.25%. It will go on the warrant for the May 2025 Annual Town Meeting. The Hopkinton Independent reports it would generate some revenue for the town that could go toward economic development programs. They say for a $100 food purchase it would add 75 cents that would go to the town.
