A Hopedale police officer is being credited with helping attack a house fire until Hopedale firefighters arrived. Fire Chief Thomas M. Daige says the fire broke out Wednesday evening at a home on Dutcher Street and Hopedale Police Lt. Lima, who was first on the scene, used the fire extinguisher from his cruiser to knock out most of the fire. Firefighters finished the job and stayed on scene to make sure there were no flare ups. The Chief says the fire looks to be accidental and the damage estimated is around $15,000 but it would have been a lot worse if Lt. Lima had not acted so quickly.
