GRAFTON – Town officials are working to establish new rules for metal detecting in Grafton.

At their most recent meeting, the Select Board began drafting the town’s first-ever policy for the hobby.

According to the Community Advocate, the proposed policy would require written permission from property owners for metal detecting on private land and from the town for public property. It may also include a requirement for finders to show any discovered items to the town, which could claim them as town property.

The policy would also prohibit the removal of any historic artifacts.
