GRAFTON – The Grafton Fire Department may add another regular full-time firefighter position next year, even as town officials work through broader budget challenges.
Officials say the department has seen a significant increase in calls for service and inspections as Grafton’s population continues to grow. The Community Advocate reports that while the department’s on-call staffing has increased, several firefighters have retired or left due to burnout caused by tight staffing levels.
Fire Chief officials had initially sought approval for two new full-time firefighters but have indicated they are prepared to move forward with just one additional position if funding allows.
