HOPKINTON – A gas leak at the Eversource Liquified Natural Gas facility on Wilson Street triggered a large emergency response from the Hopkinton Fire Department on Monday. Fire Chief Gary Daugherty Jr. says the incident was caused by a crack in a section of piping at the site.

Crews quickly began monitoring the area and deployed water streams for vapor control, while Hopkinton Police shut down nearby roads as a precaution. The Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Division also established additional air monitoring stations throughout surrounding neighborhoods.

Despite the initial concern, Chief Daugherty says there was no threat to the public and no evacuations were needed. The situation was contained without further incident.
