FRANKLIN – Town officials are warning residents and local organizations about an email scam in which criminals are impersonating Town departments and committees.
They say hackers are spoofing email addresses from the Planning Department, Conservation Commission, and others, and contacting people with fraudulent demands for invoice payments via wire transfer.
The Town stresses that it does not solicit payments through wire transfer. If you receive one of these emails, do not click on any links or attachments. Instead, officials ask that you contact Franklin Police Detective Laura Canavan to report the scam.
