FRANKLIN – Franklin Police say they are seeing a rise in cryptocurrency-related scams involving criminals impersonating government agencies, utility companies, or law enforcement. Scammers pressure victims to send payments in digital currency—something no legitimate agency will ever request, the department emphasizes.
Police warn residents to never send cryptocurrency to anyone they do not personally know and to be especially cautious of unsolicited messages, urgent demands, or threats. If you receive a suspicious call or message, they advise you to hang up immediately and contact the agency directly to confirm whether the request is real.
