FRANKLIN – What started as a disturbance at a Franklin business turned into a terrifying chain of events that left two people seriously hurt.

Police say a Franklin man caused damage at a business on East Central Street, smashing into several parked cars before driving off. When officers attempted to stop him, he fled, prompting a short, low-speed pursuit. Authorities ultimately backed off for safety reasons.

About 20 minutes later, the situation escalated dramatically on Route 140 in Mansfield. Investigators say the suspect sped down the breakdown lane, ran a red light, and slammed into a pickup truck. The force of the crash caused the truck to roll over, ejecting the driver.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with serious injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. The Franklin man is expected to face a lengthy list of charges, including fleeing police, negligent operation, and disorderly conduct.
