FRANKLIN – A former office manager for a Franklin environmental services business has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for embezzling more than $400,000.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Marie Hobson was also ordered to pay more than $500,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to wire fraud and filing a false tax return.
Investigators say Hobson inflated her own payroll with phony expense reimbursements and then manipulated the company’s accounting software to conceal the theft.
Authorities say she also used a company-issued credit card to pay for personal expenses including a country club membership, vacations, cruises, and a timeshare.
