In the wake of last week’s tragic fire at Gabriel House Assisted Living in Fall River, Governor Maura Healey has announced steps to enhance the safety in Assisted Living Residences. Beginning today, the Executive Office of Aging and Independence will begin making sure that all 273 such facilities have a written plan for emergencies.  The facilities have until the end this week to send written evacuation procedures to all residents and their families. And they have 30 days to respond to the state’s check-in on sprinkler systems, fire drills, evacuation protocols and maintenance of fire-rated doors.
