UXBRIDGE – Flags are being flown at half-staff to honor Uxbridge Police Officer Stephen LaPorta, who was killed in the line of duty Wednesday morning while assisting a driver along an icy stretch of Route 146.

Police Chief Marc Montminy says the incident remains under investigation but confirmed that a tractor-trailer struck Officer LaPorta’s patrol vehicle. The truck driver sustained minor injuries. Officer LaPorta, 43, had been a full-time officer with the Uxbridge Police Department since 2024. Prior to that, he served the communities of Hopedale and Mendon as both a police officer and dispatcher.
