BROCKTON – A Brockton man is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with a deadly confrontation last September at Finnegan Park.
Prosecutors allege that Michael Thompson returned to the park after his girlfriend, Dayana Slade, told him that Mike Jonas had disrespected her and urged him to confront the situation. According to court documents, Thompson went back to the park, confronted Jonas, and a fight involving multiple people broke out. During the altercation, shots were fired.
Authorities say Jonas was struck by four bullets and also suffered stab wounds. He later died at the scene.
Investigators allege that after the incident, Thompson and Slade fled to Maine, discarded their cell phones, and left firearms inside their vehicle. They were ultimately located and arrested by U.S. Marshals.
Both defendants have pleaded not guilty as the case moves forward through the court system.
