HOPKINTON – Fire has destroyed JB Sawmill and Land Clearing on Fruit Street, according to Hopkinton Fire Chief Gary Daugherty.
Chief Daugherty says the business is a total loss following a fire that broke out around 9 a.m. Thursday. Fire crews from Ashland, Southborough, Westborough, Upton, Hopedale, and Milford responded to assist Hopkinton firefighters at the scene.
While the fire was brought under control in about 35 minutes, Daugherty says fully extinguishing the blaze proved challenging due to the type of materials involved and the fact that the nearest fire hydrant was approximately 1,800 feet away.
Officials say the cause of the fire appears to be accidental, and no injuries have been reported. The incident remains under investigation.
