HOPKINTON – Hopkinton’s Parks & Recreation Commission is still working through challenges as it looks to add security cameras at EMC Park to improve public safety.
At a meeting this week, the Parks & Recreation Director said the original plan was to install a hard-wired camera system to provide strong, reliable video feeds covering the skate park and the lower baseball fields. However, according to The Community Advocate, that plan has hit a roadblock.
The Town’s IT Director told the Commission that neither Verizon nor Comcast is able to provide a hard-line internet connection to the park. As a result, officials have explored the option of using a cellular connection, but concerns were raised that video quality from a cellular-based system may not be clear or consistent enough to be truly useful.
Town officials and the Parks & Recreation Commission are expected to continue evaluating options as they balance safety needs with technical limitations and cost considerations.
