BELLINGHAM – A chimney fire has caused significant damage to a home on Stella Road, leaving a local family temporarily displaced.

The Bellingham Fire Department, along with several mutual aid partners, responded Friday afternoon to the residence after a fire broke out that officials say started with material around the exterior of the chimney. Fire crews reported that the flames then spread from the chimney into a closet and the home’s living room.

Fire Chief William Miller said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the living room, preventing it from spreading further through the house. However, heavy smoke damage throughout the home means the family will not be able to live there for the time being.

No injuries were reported, and officials have not released an estimate on the extent of the damage or how long repairs may take.
