Bellingham Approves MBTA Communities Zoning Overlay Ahead of Deadline

By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Bellingham is the latest town to have Town Meeting voters approve a zoning overlay to comply with the state’s MBTA Communities Act to plan for eventual population and housing growth to be near public transit. Despite many towns across the state balking at the law, several have gone ahead and passed zoning changes before the year-end deadline that could see penalties for noncompliance. Last week Hopkinton Town Meeting voters approved an overlay.
