By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – An arrest has been made in a phishing scam that bilked an elderly Hopkinton man out of $10,000. Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett says detectives have charged a 21-year-old New York man with larceny, conspiracy, and more after getting the report Wednesday from a resident. The scammer claimed to provide anti-virus software and was able to manipulate the victim’s computer which compelled him to pay up. But when the scammer asked for a second payment the next day, the victim called police who set up a sting operation and caught the guy as he arranged to collect the money.
