Whitinsville Christian’s girls tennis team kept rolling yesterday with another dominant performance, sweeping Quaboag 5-0 to move to 2-1 on the season. The Crusaders have now followed their season-opening loss to Hopedale with two straight shutouts, and they looked sharp across the board once again.

Charlotte DeFrancisco controlled first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Avery Dertien added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at second singles. Mia Besong kept the momentum going at third singles with a 6-4, 6-1 result. In doubles, Alexi Gilchrist and Arielle Zdanis won 6-1, 6-0 at first doubles, and Hadasyah Mestres and Chloe Barker closed out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win at second doubles.

Whitinsville Christian has now put together back-to-back clean team efforts after its early loss to a strong Hopedale squad. In that opening match, Dertien and Gilchrist were also a bright spot, winning their match in straight sets, and they have continued to play at a high level since then. The Crusaders appear to be settling in quickly and gaining confidence with each match.

Whitinsville Christian now turns to a tougher challenge against AMSA tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles are 3-0 and have already beaten Hopedale 3-2, so this should be a real test for the Crusaders. Whitinsville Christian will need another complete team effort to stay hot.
