The Uxbridge Spartans closed out the Clarke Tournament consolation bracket with a convincing 59-48 victory over Maynard on Tuesday night, a game that saw Uxbridge build an early cushion and withstand a second-half push by the Tigers. The Spartans led 27-17 heading into the second half and held firm by converting late possessions and making key defensive stands when Maynard threatened.

Ava Rosborough paced the Uxbridge offense with 17 points, while Zooey Pominville added 14 to provide consistent perimeter scoring. Lola Grube gave the Spartans a physical presence inside, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, and an eye-catching seven blocks that altered Maynard’s looks at the rim. Maynard’s Leah Rivers-Wright led all scorers with 23 points and fought hard in the second half, but her effort ultimately wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

The win brings Uxbridge to 9-10 heading into the playoffs and secures the No. 21 seed in the D4 bracket. The Spartans will soon learn their Round of 32 opponent and will spend the next week sharpening execution and rotations in practice, relying on their interior defense and timely scoring to advance in the postseason.
