The Tri-County Cougars made a statement in their season opener against Cape Cod Tech, fueled by an explosive performance from their offensive stars. Nick O’Brien was the game’s focal point, catching six passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns, while also churning 19 carries for 191 yards and three rushing scores. His all-purpose total of 377 yards and six touchdowns highlighted a dynamic, game-changing skill set.
Quarterback Declan Walker complemented that output, rushing for 100 yards and throwing for 242 yards with four touchdown passes. Combined, Walker and O’Brien accounted for 719 yards and 10 touchdowns, a staggering output that showed both the coupling of elite playmakers and a playbook designed to get them the ball in space.
Defensively, Tri-County also shone. Matt and Chris Pinto combined for 16 tackles and three tackles for loss, and Colt Darling added an interception that swung momentum. The balance of a high-powered offense and a disruptive defense carried Tri-County to a big opening win and extended a winning streak that dated back to last season.
The Cougars will look to sustain that production tomorrow at 6 PM against Smithfield at Xaverian Brothers High School. If they keep getting similar contributions, Tri-County will be a very dangerous team in the weeks ahead.
